Healthy Habits & Happy Eaters: A Guide for Acorn Families

At Acorn Early Education Centre, we believe that "play is a child's work," and healthy fuel makes that work possible. Our daily nutrition program is designed to foster a positive, curiosity-driven relationship with food.

Our Daily Snack Menu

We provide healthy morning and afternoon snacks daily to keep energy levels stable for daily active play.

  • Fresh Produce: Seasonal favorites like sliced apples, bananas, melons, and cucumber rounds.

  • Hearty Grains: Whole-grain crackers, rice cakes, or small muffins.

  • Protein Boosts: Cheese cubes, yogurt, or hummus for dipping.

  • Always on Tap: Filtered water is always available to ensure children stay hydrated during indoor and outdoor exploration. Please send your children with their own water bottles.

Secrets for Picky Eaters

Parents tell us our program helps their "picky eaters" try new things. Here are some of our techniques:

  • Peer Power: Children are more adventurous when they see their friends and caregivers enjoying a variety of foods.

  • The "Food Scientist" Approach: Instead of forcing a full serving, encourage your child to explore the texture or taste of just one small bite.

  • Hands-On Fun: We often incorporate cooking into our science and art programs so children can touch and explore ingredients before they eat them.

  • Positive Language: We talk about what food does for our bodies (e.g., "This gives us jumping energy!") rather than just saying it's "good for you".

Safety & Celebrations

  • Peanut-Aware Policy: To protect children with life-threatening allergies please check labels and avoid sending any peanut products to the centre.

Birthdays: We love to celebrate your child! You are welcome to send a small treat for your child’s birthday that aligns with our healthy habits and allergy-aware policies.
